Ecological Restoration as an Investment: Measuring Nature's Return

Most companies already know that nature affects their business. Far fewer have a practical way to weigh that value alongside the other investments they make.

In our recent webinar, RES and Earth Economics showed how organizations can manage ecological assets as a portfolio and how ecosystem services valuation puts numbers behind benefits such as flood reduction, water quality, and resilience. We walked through a Louisiana restoration project and the Ecological Portfolio Blueprint we use to move restoration from a compliance task toward a long-term capital investment.

The conversation covered what distinguishes voluntary restoration from compliance mitigation, why valuation provides boards and investors with a credible basis for decision-making, and how the same frameworks used for traditional infrastructure can be applied to natural assets. We also took questions from the audience on how the valuation works and when to bring it into a project.
